LIVING LABS ACADEMY SUMMER SERIES: SYSTEMS IN ACTION

A free, hands-on STEM camp where students explore real-world systems through building, testing, and problem-solving in the natural environment.

Location: Forest Park Middle School
Dates: June 8–11 | June 15–18 | June 22–25
Time: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Cost: Free (meals included)

Hosted in partnership with Clayton County Public Schools, with teachers on-site daily.

 Who is this camp for?
The camp is designed for current 6th–8th grade students in Clayton County Public Schools who are interested in hands-on learning, science, and how things work in the real world.


Is the program really free?
Yes. The program is fully funded and free for families, including daily breakfast and lunch.


Where is the camp located?
All sessions will take place at Forest Park Middle School.


What are the camp dates and times?
Students will attend one of the following four-day sessions:

  • June 8–11 
  • June 15–18 
  • June 22–25 

Each day runs from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.


How do I sign my child up?
Click the “I’m Interested” button on the page and select your preferred week. This is not a final registration—families will be contacted with availability and next steps.


How are students selected?
Spots are limited. Students will be placed based on availability, school representation, and program fit. You will be contacted once placement is confirmed.


What will my child actually be doing during the day?
Students will be actively engaged in:

  • Building and working with aquaponics and hydroponics systems 
  • Participating in hands-on experiments and challenges 
  • Working in teams to solve real-world problems 
  • Learning from guest experts and partner organizations 

This is not a lecture-based camp—students will be moving, building, and interacting throughout the day.


Who is supervising the students?
Students are supervised at all times by Living Labs staff and Clayton County Schools teachers, who will be on-site daily.


What safety measures are in place?
All activities are:

  • Age-appropriate and structured 
  • Supervised by trained adults 
  • Designed with clear procedures and expectations 

Staff maintain active supervision and clear routines throughout the day.


Is transportation provided?
No, transportation is not provided. Families are responsible for drop-off and pick-up each day.

What time is drop-off and pick-up?

  • Drop-off: Begins at 8:00 AM 
  • Pick-up: 3:00 PM 

Additional details will be provided once students are confirmed.


What happens if I’m late picking up my child?
Late pick-up procedures will be shared with families after confirmation. A designated staff member will remain with students for a short window, but consistent late pick-up may impact participation.


What should my child bring?
Students should bring:

  • A water bottle 
  • Comfortable clothing (for hands-on activities) 
  • Closed-toe shoes 

All instructional materials will be provided.


Do students need prior experience in STEM?
No prior experience is required. The program is designed for all learners, whether they are new to STEM or already interested.


Will my child be indoors or outdoors?
Most activities will take place indoors, with some outdoor components depending on the day’s activities and weather.


Who are the program partners?
Students will work with organizations including Living Labs, Produced, Truth Honey, and Fort Valley State University—bringing real-world expertise into the experience.


Will there be food provided?
Yes. Breakfast and lunch are provided daily at no cost.


Can my child attend more than one week?
No. Students will be assigned to one session only to allow more students the opportunity to participate.


What if my child has dietary restrictions or medical needs?
You will have the opportunity to share this information during the confirmation process so accommodations can be planned appropriately.
